Most people haven't tried a different search engine in years. Many have never tried anything other than google.
Google doesn't want that to change.

I stopped using Google because their god damn auto complete instant thingy irritates the living shit out of me.
No, I really DON'T mean whatever the hell it is you think I'm looking for. I mean what I was actually typing..until your stupid site decided to "save me time" by finding something I wasn't looking for instead.

Apparently you haven't been anywhere on the net today.
There aren't any 404 errors occurring. There's a lot of press being given to the issue - some sites are completely down, others are just advertising anti-sopa ads.
