Foreign Policy posted:

In her prepared remarks in Tunis, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she supported more sanctions on the Assad regime but she declined to endorse any direct help to the Syrian opposition without the consent of the Syrian government, saying only, "We all need to look hard at what more we can do."

As if Assad would ever give permission to be overthrown.

Maybe Hillary thinks we should use comfy pillows.

Bad idea for the US to get involved in this conflict

Assad needs to remain in power. This is not a democratic revolution - it's an Al Qeada, Osama Bin Laden whacko inspired revolution.

The end result of all this revolution will be more islamic extremism in the middle east. Now the US just shouldnt get involved. If this is the way it works out only deal with them if they directly attack us. Dont get involved in the internal politics of every country on this planet. THere is always a reason to get involved if you look hard enough to find one

Assad is promoting equality and human rights - these people dont want that. They want to decrease rights for non-islamic people.

They wont be happy unless all men are required to grow beards and women are covered up. They hate Assad because he is secular and that to them is evil.

edit: Which makes sense if you believe their point of view that anything non-islamic is evil and must be destroyed. But clearly that's a misguided view.

I really doubt that people in charge in the US really understand the situations in which they get involved. its been this way with US foreign policy ever since the US became a superpower

I remember reading that in Sicily that they facists put all the mafia leaders there in prison. The US when it freed that island from the fascists didnt realize who those men were and it put them in charge of the cities and towns. This is just one example of how the US is ignorant even now of how the world works

It's like those crazy KKK freaks who name their kids Adolf and what not... imagine if they started revolting saying their voice is not heard in government?

Their goal isn't democracy - they have no voice in our government and that's a good thing and it should stay that way. Their voice and point of view is to kill all jews and blacks, etc...

It's the same deal in the mid-east except they still have a huge number of people like that (our version of the KKK weirdos).

yep those are the revolutionary types. In Libya the US supported the rebels without even knowing who they were and their goals. Very stupid. Dont take sides. Its folly for the US to not know the revolutionaries or their goals and then end up supporting Islamic extremists

The US is dumb foreign policy wise. It has the worst empire in human history.

The US Military-Industrial Establishment does NOT want peace - peace leads to such things as demands for social reform and political accountability.

Nope - stir the pot, keep them thar' Muslimites revolting (more than they normally are anyway) and fight wars hither and yon while reaping the rewards only a purely socialist or out-of-control-democratist government can achieve.
