I swear to christ, we will NEVER fix the mess we are in while we have idiots like Buck McKeon in the Government.

"I held my breath and voted for the BCA, with the hopes that we could fix the serious problems with the bill shortly after," McKeon said in remarks prepared for delivery in Simi Valley. "That's why one of my top priorities is getting that half a trillion dollars back. The taxpayers rightly demanded that everything should be on the table for deficit reductions. I agree. But explain to me why defense is less than 20 percent of federal budget, but has accounted for half of our spending cuts to date. Taxpayers said ‘cut the fat out of defense.' We did that."

I can't really fault the chairman for defending his area, and if there were no cuts at all, I'd also have an issue with his statement. But simply because the chairman wants less cuts, doesn't mean that is the will of the entire congress.

The Rs and Ds set up the deficit panel with the agreement that if the panel didn't come up with a plan that Congress could approve, massive cuts in both defense and entitlements would be made. As soon as it looked as though the panel wasn't going to agree to anything, the Rs started making noises about reneging on their promise to cut military spending.
Can they legally and procedurally do so? Absolutely. Does it show what a bunch of hypocritical liars they are? Absolutely!
During the debate to extend the debt limit, the Rs and Ds came to an agreement as to the size of the next budget. Now, the Rs are saying they want to cut more.
