I've been thinking about this idea lately. We bicker about things like traffic cameras, raising tolls, construction permits and the like, who are the people actually REQUESTING these things? I think we all recognize that they're just money grabs for the state but who is actually lobbying for their representatives to install traffic cams or raise traffic tolls? In the case of cameras, I don't know anyone that feels they are a big enough deal to actually contact their local politicians.

So whatever happened to "by the people and for the people"? Just how out of control are things in this country? Has their power gone completely unchecked? Because of our apathy?

I think a lot of people on the left are bummed at some of the things Obama has failed to deliver. But in that respect, what has changed since the 2010 midterm election? What about all those Republicans that were voted in? Are people on the right happy with the progress those leaders have made in Washington? Have they delivered on their revolutionary promises?

Gotta be honest, things feel pretty hopeless in America. Our leaders don't appear to be accountable for anything and now that they've adjourned for the year they leave us wondering what we have to look forward to in 2012.

My daughter gave me some thoughtful views on politics, this week. Was kind of a surprise.

She wanted to know when we were going to return to being an actual "republic" so that we elected people whose judgement and decision-making ability we TRUSTED and let them make the laws and decisions for us. The more we think of ourselves as a pure democracy, the less we actually get done and the less happy we are with the crappy decisions that are made by our government.

I can't think of a single politician I would trust with loose change.

there is realistically only one direction to go once a gov't gets as big as the US gov't....our leaders have ignored constitutional restraints and expanded the gov't past its intended limits....

as far as a local/state level....it's special interest groups that get the laws passed....the super powerful police and teacher unions...and various vocal minority extreme left/right nut groups....and of course the corporate lobbies like the koch brothers antiunion lobby

the average citizen doesn't believe strongly enough in one thing or another to group up and fight the legislation going on

our entire legislative process has been take over by vocal minority groups...because the masses don't rise up and bitch slap them quiet

I agree with your last point. Our leaders are seriously entertaining people that have no business being in the spotlight. They are catering to people for whatever reason (money, endorsements...) who really need to be told that they're lunatics and be chased off. Those leaders are guilty for actually embracing these people and we're guilty for letting them.

Politicians would be insulted by loose change. If it's not 50's and 100's in a briefcase, it's not worth their time.
