i know some in the cold areas, just keep the beer outside on the porch during winter. all that snow and sub zero temps make for cold cold drinking

when i was a kid, my dad used to take me to "bomb shelter shows" at the LA convention center in southern cal.
this was the late 50's early 60's
was like the sports and boat show only just bomb shelters and survival, generators and stuff.
several people in our neighborhood got them and after a few years many of them just turned into play houses.
after the cuban missle crisis became not a crisis any more...

I keep my soda on the porch about 9 months of the year. I'd keep my beer out there too, except I don't need to encourage people to steal it.

in ancient china the emperors palaces would have them to store ice and snow, they were dug very low and insulated. ice and snow would be use later on for making desert foods.
