It is only intended as an extendable, cloud based, sensor. The rest you can do easy enough in response to the email/sms/etc. Building a similar device, even one that is interactive, isn't all that hard to do but it requires tools and the knowledge not only to build the device but program it. If this was a fool-proof widget that worked right out of the box though it would have a decent market. Heck if it was cheap enough I would get one just to save me the effort of building my own for things like monitoring my fermentation temps or the like.

I think "saving people the effort" is exactly the market this is after. Considering you can attach up to four sensors to each unit and they are wireless, there are a lot of applications that this would make VERY simple. If you consider your time worth anything than this thing is CHEAP even at $100 a pop.

If you are one of those people that likes to build your own radio from components then this obviously wouldn't appeal to you.
