I'd form an elite spec ops unit that is also a professional sc2/dota2 team, to prove once and for all that North Korea is best Korea.

Hit the South where it hurts, I say.

You're Kim Jong-un. You have various generations and factions unsure of your capabilities. What do you do?

Ignorance of North Korean culture and politics in this thread is excusable since the whole world is clueless.

sell the whole country to the South Koreans, take money and retire to a pleasant Mediterranean villa because let's face it, North Korea sucks.

I thought of this the day his father's death was announced. It's speculated he was educated in a western college. I think it would be very cool if he adopted some of the western culture in his thinking to lead the north into a better future. There's so much the western woulrd would do to help him right now if he sought to improve relations.

1. Have any dissenters to my succession within the political structure killed, along with their families. Rather than a public display of gruesome power to instill fear, they would simply disappear. Their existence would be wiped from the record - it would be as if they never existed. Have any dissenting persons from my own family exiled for fabricated crimes.

2. Run a propaganda campaign to publicly discredit any of those 'gone missing' from step 1 that were of particular interest to the people, without actually saying what happened to them. Rather than having the people fear me outright, they would fall to discussion amongst themselves as to what really took place. While this would show that I'm taking a strong position of power and punishing those who would seek to 'harm North Korea', it would also not lead people to outright fear of me. The truth would be lost, leaving me free to pursue other avenues.

3. Promote high-ranking military backers of my succession to appropriate positions within the government - advisers, cabinet/parliament members, etc.

4. Meet with Chinese delegates to provide a public display of solidarity with allies. Allow South Korean diplomats and delegates access to the country.

5. Gain the love of the people by discarding the useless philosophy of total self-reliance that Kim Jong-Il and his father embraced. Make a show of nuclear disarmament to reduce sanctions and open up trade. An outflow of raw materials and textiles will provide jobs and help the flagging economy, while ensuring an inflow of Western goods and services through trade and the relaxation of internet firewall rules to keep the people sated and happy. Secretly broker an agreement with the Iranians via the Chinese to funnel money to their continued nuclear development with the promise of receiving nuke tech in return.

6. Use the influx of tariff/tax money and build up public infrastructure. Relax laws that provide the impression of total dictatorship, allowing the people some freedoms while still quietly squelching naysayers against my regime.

7. Broker alliances with other major Asia powers (Japan, Russia, etc). Reinstate formal diplomatic relations with the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. Officially end the war in the Korean peninsula without agreeing to reunification. Open trade with S Korea and work towards a military ally agreement.

8. Wait until the country has achieved importance as a major trade and military partner before announcing nuclear ambitions (using tech which was already created in secret by the Iranians). During this waiting period, relax and produce some heirs, play some vidja games, drink some beer, etc.

Kill a few people to make an example, then you manipulate the other leaders so that people are fighting each other in order to gain your favour and not focusing on you.

Lets all hope he opens up the country and starts making deals with Coke, Disney, GE and Kia for rights to do business there. Word is he was educated in Switzerland so maybe he's seen how people are supposed to live. And as for turning the power on at night, I don't think they really have a power grid over there so turning it on isn't really an option. Heck, most farming is still done completely by hand. I just hope he doesn't go wacko and start shooting. I'd really like to not have to go to that shizhole and help take care of things.

Broadcast the perfect speech. Show compassion for your father, talk about bringing prosperity for North Korea, and sing praise to the powerful North Korea army. Say lots of things about how "we must stand together" and "disrespecting me is disrespect for my father, and will not be tolerated".

If he has a bad speaking voice or something, either use software to edit the audio or hire a voice actor.

After step 7, how could you keep the people from demanding more freedoms and control over their government while also keeping the now privy international community out of any uprisings? You may be best Korea but you aren't Saudi Arabia.
