I would for a family member in life, and to anyone in death.
EDIT: Also, why would anyone be on a marrow donor list and hope to hell they are never called? Just remove yourself from it already...

An acquaintance of mine (young and healthy) donated one to her father last year and she's doing fine now.
My father went for years with both kidneys failing and on the last round of issues they both failed completely and didn't recover. He goes to dialysis 3 times a week and is on a crazy strict diet. He's doing reasonably well considering that and his other issues. The issue of donation for him never even came up, he just turned 81 and set a longevity record for our family when he turned 60.
If my kid needs one he's welcome to it, but for my father it's a waste. (My kidneys are doing ok, I get tests twice a year. )

Opinion = fact. Anecdote = proof. Political label more important than either of those.

I donated a kidney for my nephew last year. It wasn't a direct donation, I wasn't a good match for him, but I gave a kidney to a guy, whose wife gave a kidney to another guy, whose brother was a good match for my nephew.
So in all, 3 people donated, and 3 people got a kidney which changed their lives.
I'm old, have a bad heart, have other chronic health problems. They still used my kidney. Didn't change my life a bit, took a couple of days to recover. Didn't cost me much (had to cover the cost of a hotel room for 5 days after the surgery).

Meaning Ptilk got really plastered in a bad neighborhood and woke up in a bathtub of ice missing a kidney, and they still charged him for the room.

when i was like 9 i remember asking the doctor if i could donated a kidney to my cousin who was 8, he had like 4 kidneys that were all bad(2 growing in the place of each one). the doctor told me i could if i was a match but that i would never be able to ride motorcycles again because i would risk damaging my one kidney. being 9 i promptly rescinded my offer to donate. its all good though he lived

my Dad's brother is the oldest male that's been on his side of the family in a long time (blood related of course), and he passed away at 69 with a bunch of problems (kidney failure being one..he was in ICU for 6 months before they pulled the plug on him after he kept getting worse). I think my Dad feels like he won't make it past the mid-60's naturally, which would explain why he didn't tell anyone about it.
Well, when the time comes I don't think either of us (brother or myself) would hesitate to do it if we were compatible. The only thing I'm worried about is if my Dad doesn't ever say anything to us about it. My Mom will probably bring it up and force him into it.
