BIAB would be too much for me, seems like you wouldn't get enough sugar.

Were you low on OG?

My OG was 1.042 and the recipe estimated 1.043 so not far off. For the grain bill and final volume my efficiency was right around 80%. I'm thinking lower than that but I didn't get an accurate read on my final volume. I know it was between 5.5 and 6 gallons though which puts me between 75 and 82 percent efficiency. As for the efficiency/viability of BIAB it gets comparable results to a full all grain setup which is one reason I want to give it a go.

This run had quite a few oopsies but nothing that will impact things too bad, which is one of the reasons I switched actually. I was getting complacent with extract/specialty grain brewing and wanted to add more to my brew day. I'm back to having to tune things and work out new techniques and whatnot. Should make for an interested brew year.

Sounds nice. I really want to get into all grain. Waiting until I don't move around so much. I already have to move enough brewing crap every year or so...

That is why I am giving BIAB a shot. It is very compact equipment wise. I'll actually be able to prune down my gear once I get the new stuff up to speed and settle on a process. After that I guess I'll start making slants or just washing yeast.

Just checked fermentation. It has been so nice out I forgot to hook up the heater... dropped below the range I set. Oh well not too far below it should heat up and the yeast should get back to work soon enough.

All grain is about half the cost as extract...there's your other reason to go AG

Working on bringing down the bill... well not so much bringing down the bill as bringing it in house. Bulk grain buys, slanting/storing yeast, maybe even growing some hops. I can't really say it is for the money though as I throw stupid amounts of money at any hobby I really enjoy so saving a couple bucks a brew isn't that big a deal, lol. Mostly it is to immerse myself more in the hobby.
