I do something similar to that, i use a Netti Pot and it pours salty purified water in one nostrile and out the other...cleaning out the gunk...and making it more successful to blow ones noes.

I don't have a netti pot, nor do I have distilled water, or feel up to boiling my own and waiting for it to cool down.

They're cheap and you don't have to use distilled or boiled water.
Unless you're worried about some killer amoeba in your local water supply, which you shouldn't be.
