barely any games use hyperthreading technolgy currently so quad cores are basically useless unless you multi-box
most games don't use more then 2 gigs of memory nor more then 1gig of video memeory
unless you are useing aftermarket hi-res texture packs maybe I can see the need for all this..
I picked up my last machine with win 7 6gigs of ram and a quad core only to find out that most games don't use it
lol still trying to figure out how to make my games use more then 1 coreI really don't know why games are not programmed to take advantage of 64 bit machines is it really that much programmeing to put out a 64bit version?
rage was supposed to be 64bit supposed to take advantage of hyperthreading and you can force it to use more video memory which does make it look better to some degree useing the large address patch on it helps to some degree with how smooth it runs
I just expected that most new games comeing out in 2010-11-12 would already be able to take advantage of my machine.
I'd say hold off until something comes out to warrant it besides from everything I've read crossfire isn't even reliably supported and AMD is really having a hard time keeping up with what people are releasing. Almost every game I have bought has had some issues in the last year in the first few weeks because drivers are not up to date. Rage took a month before AMD had ironed out the bugs, skyrim was 2-3 weeks as well before I found the large address patch and that helped a bit to relieve the texture errors. But it still CTD. Same with Need for Speed the Run it CTD almost once a day.. It's runs perfect when I can play it maxxed out and man it looks friggin great minus the cutscenes which are dorky as hell. But it's got the best enviroments I've seen in a racer. Saints 3 crashes to desktop as well.. CPU is running at 55degress C so ya. 12.1 preview drivers helped a ton.
And I was getting these crashes in stock mode as well so it's not the OC causeing it I am pretty convinced the drivers are just behind where they need to be.
I7-920 OC 3.5
Radeon 5850 stock
6gig Mushkin DDR3 tripple channel 700mhz (slow) but good enough
Western Digital Caviar Black 7200rpm (FU and and your SSD's)
I can still run everyting maxed out full anti-aliasing/AS so why am I upgradeing to a 3gig card?? how much crap do you want to run in the background anyway.
Anway just saying it'd be nice for someone to release some killer app on a couple of blue-rays and fill them up it's about time for something really retarded to come out. Every since I was a kid and saw the FF 7 cutscenes I've wanted full FMV style graphics in a game I'll just keep dreaming here.
