The multiple BBs thing works best if you over-pump the gun.

pellet won't ricochet like a BB will...but if you were to shoot straight at your eye, the pellet gun could go into your brain if you have a good enough gun.

I've been shot by bb guns many times (brother used to shoot me all the time in the winter when I was bundled up in heavy winter gear)...they don't hurt too badly. barely go under the skin after 15 yards or so. And I've squirrel hunted with pellet guns many times before. quiet enough you can get multiple shots off before they run away

I would say bb, a pellet would flatten on impact making it much less likely to come back to bite you
