Mine is several years old and was given to me by a friend that didnt like it...I really never use it but since I got a PS3 I wanted to use it to talk to my friend... haven't used it over the ps3 yet but on my phone even sitting really close it sounds awful- lots of popping and crackling... It's a plantronics old one if that makes a difference

Or is it possibly my phone which I kind of dislike now (cause it is sloooow after they keep pushing updates to it)...it's an HTC evo.
and suggestions of brands etc of bluetooth headsets to buy if I need a new one?

I had to do a factory reset on my evo the other day because of the low storage problems and the google framework process.gapps failing, which I guess happens every now and then.
Seems faster now, it did get slower and slower since I got it. I think I might root it.

I had an older Motorola BT headset, gave it away because it was a POS.

I have a Motorola stereo Bluetooth headset that I like a lot. It is easier to hear with than the one ear variety and you can listen to music on it as well - only cost 40 bucks.

Bluetooth is barely adequate for handsfree sound quality. For music the only decent wireless phones I've heard are Sennheiser with Kleer Audio. Not sure if they've extended the range from RS170 and 180.
IOW, they all suck.

I got some stereo headphones for my son a few years back that were bluetooth, they were on a super deal from newegg. They work great for listening, but these didn't have a mic.

No, just MOST bluetooth headsets suck.
Problem is, you almost never can tell which ones until after you buy them.
