Something I sometimes see in movies and it always bugs me.

So someone is in s place where the only escape it at the top and they can't climb out. It begins to flood. It may not even be a fast flood or one that washes them back. And yet somehow they are going to fie because not only can they not tread water long enough to float out, but they even seem to lack the simple ability of holding onto the side of the wall as they kick their feet to keep their head above water. Hollywood must think we are real morons.

I'd imagine that if the only exit is a trapdoor in the ceiling, it could be hard to get enough leverage to open it while treading water.
