With exception to Devin Hester of course, he has skillz! But got  blocked by the league with the new rules change.

Thats not even his fault, it was all the other fragile kick returners that thought they had the same speed and skills until they ran full speed into a nfl linebacker/linemen that was just killing them.

Most of that has to do with the price of players.
Most coaches dont want to play their stars on special teams because of injury issues.

football is a game of inches.
great special teams play can certainly give you enough positional advantage to win games.
however, with the new kickoff rules, it's slightly less important these days - however still vital to games.
ex1
the patriots dynasty have always had an extremely reliable place kicker - which secured many close wins for them. including a superbowl against the rams.
counter example
the STL Rams have had a great place kicker and one of the best punters in the league for the last 10+ years. the rams haven't won more than 8 games in a decade.
personal example
our high school football team was one of the few teams to actually have a place kicker. many other teams wouldn't even attempt field goals over 15 yards and they would always resigned to going for 2 point conversions because their kicker was only 50% on point after attempts.
special teams can help you win or lose close ballgames because football is a game of inches.
in today's league many of the top teams have comparable offense/defense. you need whatever slight advantage you can get to win.
if you have a booming coffin corner punter, you defense has a lot more flex in it.
if you have a PK who can nail 50+ yarders your offense stalls aren't as bad.
