I agree with this, except no public contributions either. You'd find out in a hurry who's out to help the country and whos out to help themselves if they could only spend their own money.
No, what you'd end up with is only rich people running for office.
Not if you eliminated political campaigning altogether. Voters should learn about the candidates through fair, unbiaseded news reporting, not through paid political advertisements.

If money is left as a significant advantage then those with money will always stack the deck in their favor. Always.
Full disclosure would keep it clean(er). Public financing only would help make it a more level playing field.

I know full well.
I also know that the current law also requires any member of a PAC to disclose names, occupations, employers and addresses of all individuals who contributed more than $200 in an election cycle

I would make contributions illegal from lobbyists.
We have public free access television. Every candidate who meets a defined criteria would get to do their campaigning there. Anything else, comes out of their own pockets.
