Pfft, no. If it's a quality made product, then it should stand up to the people you KNOW are gonna use brillo pads and elbow grease to clean it.
I've had my crock pot by Hamilton Beach for about 4 years now. Made at least 100+ meals in it, and used everything from a sponge to

to clean it.
The surface is still like it was out of the box, and it still cooks a damn great meal (did an 8 hour pot roast friday night).
The porcelain glaze has no chips or scratches.
