If you think my opinion is idiotic, re-read yours.
Dont worry I will give my opinion anyways.
The PvP MMO is NOT a "niche" market, Mythic is just a "niche" company.

lol
yeah we planned to book the fishing trip ahead of time online...
another thing I was told to ask about is child stuff...do the cruise lines supply any car seats/cribs/etc? or do we need to bring our seat and pack-n-play? don't plan to do much of anything in a car, so we would probably just leave someone on the boat with the baby and everyone else go if it's too much of a hassle for the couple times we might.

This. I worked for HAP (Holland America - Princess) for the past three summers cooking on the train. Seward is absolutely beautiful and there's a ton of stuff to do around there.
I don't know much about the inner passage but if you decide to hang out in Seward or anywhere on the Kenai, PM me for more info.
I've been to Anchorage, Fairbanks, Homer, Seward(none on a cruise), Seward is the only city in Alaska I've ever been violently ill in.
That said - don't take a cruise, you miss out on so much of Alaska, and Seward is just a f***ing tourist trap.
I very highly recommend a motor home rental, driving from Anchorage to Homer(doing some halibut fishing there), driving up to Denali, taking the bus in and exploring a bit, and farting around.
Sure the cruise gets you some things - but there is just so much more to the place.

They might go to the same place, but a cruise is a totally different vacation from touring the interior.

no one going can take off more than 9 days (My mom is the most limited, as she has just started up a new clinic and is one of the head people and she gets too far behind if she misses), and that's really more than we want anyways...with 2 young kids, 9 days away from home is a long time, especially with the youngest being only 1 as of a few days ago. Someone has to be with her at every waking moment, and in the near vicinity 24/7.
Plus, as I said, it's 5 of us and 2 kids, minimum. We have 2 retired neighbors who want to go if they can, and I have 2 great Aunts/Uncles (as in 4 people) who want to go also if time permits...So anywhere from 7 to 13 people, and none of those options allow for RV's.
Also, one of the great Aunts will NOT go to Alaska in a vehicle. They went up there when my other great aunt and Uncle lived in Alaska (they are the other couple thinking about going, they lived there for 10 years...in Anchorage I think) and rented an RV...They were driving around sight-seeing on their last day there and went down a road they shouldn't have (was a small road with no barriers on the side and it got even smaller the further they went in)...They got to a point where they decided to turn around and found a wide area. They ended up backing up a foot or so too far and the road/ground underneath it broke up and slid down. They rolled backwards down about a 40 foot drop (not straight down, but WAYYY too steep for a vehicle to be on, especially that size), and flipped over 3 or 4 times. Luckily someone had seen them turn on the road who knew the area and decided to go check on them after not seeing them come back after a while.
so anyways, an RV would be out of the question for multiple reasons Plus, none of us have ever been on a cruise, and my parents have been to Alaska before in a car...That's not gonna happen again.
