From the Oregonian, Elderly Eugene woman accuses Wells Fargo of overbearing, unlawful bill collection tactics
Full story here.
The jist: an 85-year-old woman was being hounded by a debt collector to the point that she mentioned these kinds of collection practices would make people lose their homes or even lead others to suicide. The collector called the police, who forced the woman to go to suicide watch at the hospital and she is having to fight the nearly $2,000 in 'medical' bills.
It's interesting reading the comments too, ranging from Occupy people that want to string up the collector to others blaming the old woman for not paying her bills. I for one believe her side of the story completely, as a fellow Oregonian with a sizable student loan through Wells Fargo. Two years ago after I graduated from college and hadn't found my job yet, these people were breathing down my neck a dozen times a day, and I once asked one in frustration how he expected me to pay: rob a bank? Ended up having a very uncomfortable conversation with some nice PPB officers. I think the FCDPA could use a tune up.

Anne Sessions of Eugene has filed a civil lawsuit seeking $1,055 in economic damages and $250,000 in punitive damages.
i hope she wins and uses the money to hire a hit man to "whack" the debt collectors
that would be funny

Why does it matter that old fart is old? The collector is either an asshat or entirely within its legal rights whether she's 25 or 125. Stop trying to tug heartstrings instead of providing evidence that leads to an actual point, please.

I doubt she was "joking" she was likely making a point. Old people have enough to deal with being old and on a limited income, without debt collectors hounding them twenty times a day, it gets old really fast. She is likely already doing nothing but sitting around worrying about her financial well being.
