Also a good point with the bulbs. Standard bulbs won't work well at all. You want the full spectrum daylight bulbs.

Also, the critters are very temperature sensitive and most will want it very warm (75F+), so don't stick them in a cold basement.

Go buy a backup one now and just ignore it for the week. You then have a replacement.

have them write up a simple care sheet for you. specifics on cage temps, bulbs used, types of food and how often to feed, etc.

if it ends up being a leopard gecko i can help with most things since i'm familiar with them.

thanks everyone, if I remember right they already have a lamp for it in the classroom that should be coming with the lizard (because it doesn't do any good sitting unused).
