You get to take 50 people with you. Among them must be a musician, a scientist, a movie star, an athlete, an artist, a writer, and a politician... Who do you take to fill these slots? Do you bring YOUR family? or do you try and fill the ship with more important people? What other professions would you make sure are aboard the ship? Naturally we are going to assume that all plant and animal dna has been secured and stored on the ship to help recreate the new world. Fill in das form!

Really though -- you can have as much knowledge as you want stored on Blu-Rays. You can then have as many embryos as you can manage for implantation -- these you would want as varied as possible. Then you need as many wombs as you can fit. You would need field medics, maybe a shaman etc because what you need is people who can deal with native medicine from wherever you end up as opposed to people who are trained in things you won't have. You would need people good at farming etc, and some of the best teachers to teach the massive number of kids. People would pretty much all be female and need to be people who can farm etc while pregnant.

The main thing you really want to end up with is at least a few thousand people able to be born with as little genetic overlap as you can manage, into an environment where they will survive and not end up insane(so yes people with psychology training would be helpful). Lastly you would want engineers enough for if something happened technically.

If the goal is to jump start humanity after a wipe out, I am not taking any of those under any circumstances with the possible exception of the musician but they also better be capable of producing other things with their creative energy and children.

I mean you have:

Part 1: Journey. Making sure you get there safely.

Part 2: Construction of the basic colony and initial implantation... Figure everyone will have triplets and you have only a finite amount of time where people can work hard doing the set up.

Part 3: The initial crop of 150 kids. Assume 130 survive (harsh new environment without enough support). 2nd impregnation and working on keeping them alive.

Part 4: As the years go by more and more of the resources of the colony has to go to the new members and the ratios get strained. I mean by the time any of the kids can have any real part in running things vs taking is say 7 years down the line when you have 130 babies 130 1 year olds 130 2 year olds .... 130 6 year olds. Even so at that point you have only 50 people running the colony assuming none die which is kind of unrealistic -- lets say 47 or so and 900 little ones to support.

Part 5: Transition -- as the oldest new colonists start to age to a point where they are able to take more of a part in things, they may well be trying to take over. I mean you have 45 people trying to run things but 2000 being run -- and some of those teens may be rambunctious. It is not even close to a situation where you have enough authority. This is actually the most dangerous time where things could easily get out of control.

Part 6: Passing the torch -- Assuming the remaining embryos arent all stale you have the decision to make as to how the new adults are going to live their lives. Then you have the issue of the initial colonists becoming too old to continue pumping out the kids. The new 20 year olds will eventually take over the colony and how the initial people who made the trip are handled is really up in the air.
