every square foot of solar panel produces about 10kw, for around 5 hrs a day, and they usually last for 20 years. they take about 10 years to pay for themselves

The sad thing is that no one may have even thought to make this calculation before.

You're probably right. All those people who spent all that time developing solar energy forgot to figure out cost of production and expected life of solar panels. JD_HOGG should patent the idea. He'll be as rich as Al Gore!

Awesome! How to patent? ??

For this, it's about $600: http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/ac/qs/ope/fee092611.htm

After seeing the patent for playing with cats with a laser pointer, I'm tempted to test the waters with this. It could be used to sue solar companies, or sold to oil companies for much more. Of course talking about it in a public forum probably makes it unpatentable...

Next time, just PM me your ideas.

Just like the ski lodge with young women looking for husbands and husbands looking for young girls, the situation is not as symmetric as it first appears.

Dont worry I will give my opinion anyways.

Wind is the most economical so far, for Hawaii anyway.

The stirling engine has me the most interested for solar. http://www.internationalrivers.org/the-way-forward/water-energy-solutions/here-comes-sun-taking-solar-power-grid-scale
