My boyfriend & I watched the first Doctor Who serial with the Fourth Doctor today. Only 76 DVDs to go until we start on the new series.

If it is the 4th Doctor then it is "old school" as you put it since there was only one 4th Doctor and that is Tom Baker. He was a fun Doctor... there is nothing wrong with the old ones, they are classics.
