I'm not sure if it works the same in NY, but here if someone moves in then they legally can't charge you further rent on the unit. So you're only liable for the amount until a new tenant moves in.

Talk to the landlord, see if they will release you from your contract if you find them a new tenant that wants to either take over your lease or sign their own year lease. I'm sure they would prefer this to you subletting.

as a last resort, see if you can find something in the ADA that would let you break the lease.
