They are also great for idiot proof, ie no viruses or crashes, for "those" relatives. At least for now.

You haven't figured out apple's way of doing things yet? Release a crappy product, then each time you figure out a way to fix one of the minor issues re-release it and add a number to it and charge more.

Unfortunately, I'm one of them, ha ha... I have an iPad2. I either play games on it (yay, appshopper!) or read books...
I want mine for web browsing on the front porch or sofa, where a laptop isn't as useful. Basically, I have a specific use in mind and it will get a lot of use so its worth it to me.
I got my wife one for that purpose. She uses it all over the house.. and you don't have to power them up/down like a crappy laptop.

By the time generation 3 or 4 rolls around yes, they stop being crappy. But that's about the same time that the competition puts out generation one of their product that is equal to Apple's Generation 4. Apple rushes out pieces of crap to start the cash cow rolling. The smart consumer waits for one of its competitors to put out a quality product. The reason Apple rushes out the product? Because they catch wind of a competitor making an innovative new product and rush to get their crappy version out first so everyone associates the piece of junk with them and eats up their slowly decreasingly less crappy generations.

I rarely use a computer at home anyone since I've got my ipad 1 at launch. It's a great device, but not having flash is really frustrating. It crashes all the time with website ads.
It might be time to upgrade to a 3 though.
