if you never read the original Edgar Rice Burroughs books, the movie wasn't that bad. some of the script writing could have been alot better. if you go into it without expecting too much, you should enjoy it.

A Princess of Mars is my favorite fantasy book. Read it when I was 10.
The little clip I saw was enough to ruin the movie for me.

Pretty much a brilliant rule for any adaptation of one art form to another.
My golden rule for movies, is to take them for what they are. If it's action movie, don't go in to expecting a heartfelt drama... If the trailers and synopsis tell you one thing, and it turns out to be another, then you should feel cheated, but going in to a movie knowing what it's supposed to be, then getting upset that it's being what advertised to be is just silly.
That said. I don't know if I'll watch John Carter any time soon. It may go on to my netflix list, though.

Agreed. Most book to movie adaptions I'm fine with because I understand you simply cannot keep every little thing the same when telling the story via two different mediums. The only time I get really annoyed is when they alter something that is a fundamental part of the original story or characters when there was really no reason to do so.
I haven't seen John Carter yet, and I don't expect it to follow the books much, so I'm thinking I'll enjoy it.

Watch me turn the stones. That evil comes out.
And why would I set it free? It always comes back to me.
That evil is the only thing that always comes back to me.
