That word has almost no meaning in the Auto industry anymore. Does that mean buy a Toyota or Honda? They are the two top front to end producers of vehicles in the US? Does that mean buy one of the companies that the government owns? Does that mean buy someone like Ford who is based out of Detroit but actually has most of their jobs outside of the US?

What exactly does that even mean?



I bought a Dodge and my dad would be so proud of me for buying American if we were to talk. But I think I would have to tell him the engine is built in Mexico and the car itself in Canada. But if I had a Toyota he'd be very pissed because it has a Japanese name. It would not matter to him where it was built. This is the mentality I suffered for the first 18 years of my life.

I get the idea behind what most people feel is "American" made for cars, Ford, GM, Chev etc etc but reality is those places are less "American" made than a lot of "Foriegn" auto makers.
