slick looking bike

500's still have enough balls to haul ass, as long as your not some steak and potato fed giant of a man.

That's what I find out tomorrow, going to take it out on the highway and make sure it has breakaway speed.

for non motorbike folks, breakaway speed is this:

If you are in a pinch (sometimes literally) you have 3 options on a motorcycle, swerve, brake, or accelerate: generally speaking, accelerating is 80% of the time the right way to survive.

I weigh around 200-210 lbs and my 300 cc 4 wheeler will get up to 45 mph as fast as I can shift the gears..

50 mph on a 4 wheeler with swamper tires on it is scary even on pavement.

I dont even know what top end is because after 45 mph is when I start backing off the throttle.

That's probably a different type of motor - V-twins have a much different power band than virtually any other type of engine

with gas prices going the way they are going, a motorcycle purchase is probably in my future.

Its either going to be a cruiser or an enduro/hybrid style bike for some off road capability.

I looked hard at an enduro style bike, but with the huge temp swings here between night/day it makes sense for me to have a bike I can tuck into to avoid the wind. It's a big reason I don't commute with my Kawasaki. That and I REFUSE to take it out in rain due to the huge amounts of chrome on it. Vanity!

Just got my Ninja 500 back from the mechanic. They really are such a blast to ride. Got mine mainly for the awesome parking on campus.

I'll never own a bike because I don't think I could fully respect the speed they can achieve. 100mph on something like the OP is easy, and I love going fast. It wouldn't be long before my own dumb ass would get myself into trouble with the law, or end up killing myself.

I would never get one because I think they're unreasonably unsafe to ride. Too many idiots on the road to take the risk. I bet they're a lot of fun though.
