Having a discussion on Darktide about this and wanted your thoughts.

AC devs had denied rumors about it for years, but finally came out and admitted it a few years back: There's something called the Wi/Wei flag that they put on an account and drops its invisible "luck" statistic considerably. Beyond that no one knows why they used it.

I see this as a grievous abuse of power, a treacherous consideration to give an account. Given the power abuse Darktide has suffered through the years, AC devs/mods in game have shown they are all too human, and prone to the subjective emotions that come with it.

I'd like to hear exactly why something like this was every allowed in game, and allowed to stay once it was discovered.

My understand was that it was not on purpose and was on you toon based on how long your name was. Not sure I had it, but I certainly wanted it. But I was also a power leveler.

Name length? Gah, no wonder my mage on MT (Ancksunamum) and my archer on WE (AkagiyamaMissile) looted CRAP all the time.

Why would the length of your name be justification for purposeful sabotage of your account? You'll need to elaborate on that, and why you wanted that on your account in the first place.

I thought that the "who I attack first" routine used what location that your name was in the database, not name length.

The person with the lowest number got attacked first.

edit: And it persisted into newer characters because old ones would be deleted and the database simply filled the empty holes with new names.

I also believe the wi flag was for monsters targeting you, not the loot system.

I know it's been a long time, so the fragments of memory I have could be a little off..

The 'Wi Flag' had nothing to do with your loot. It had to do with your death. There was a hash generated based on the name given to your character at creation. That hash was used in a roll each time a monster 'rolled' to see who it was going to attack first. The people with the 'wi flag' were always attacked first no matter who they were with or what damage someone else had done to a monster, etc.

I leveled a few chars in the BSD. Those tuskers could get you up fast. I remember on incident where I was still low level and 2 low mages came in and started standing behind me to drain them. I asked why they were doing that and they said because I had melee trained and they didn't. nevermind they were making it very hard to survive. On the next spawn I just stood there until they started casting then I stepped aside and watched both die horribly. Voila. No more mages.

To be clear, I'm talking about an intentional flag used to purposefully sabotage the "luck" statistic on a character. They called it the Wi flag in the Darktide discussion, but upon further research it seems the Wi flag is indeed a combat-base luck draw only:

I'll need to find another term to define this, but it's something we think exists.
