after watching a good chunk of the Italy/NZ game this morning I've come to a conclusion, or at least one of the conclusions on why soccer will never be big in the US

flopping

could the bleeping Italians flop any freaking more?


if I may make a generalization about the American sport fan, they don't want to freaking see entire game outcomes differed because of some well timed bleeping flops


IMO Italy should have lost that game 0-1, but because some dbag flops in the box they get a penalty kick and score


if I were world dictator I'd pass a law saying you can never be called for a foul against Italy, maybe grow some balls and stop flopping over like a 5 year old girl and pretend writhing in agony


now you may say "But Bern, in basketball people can flop too!" and I say "yes but a couple flopped basketball fouls don't have the repercussions of a soccer flop in the box that can decide the entire game's outcome"


this is coming from someone who from 5 to 17 played in local soccer leagues, it was always really fun to play when you were playing someone honest, but those few teams I did play against that were huge floppers, it REALLY pisses you off

Meanwhile, back on topic - so that addition of time at the end of a half, that's some arbitrary amount of time, and nobody but an official knows when it's about to end? That seems crazy, especially in a huge tournament like this, that they wouldn't know... OK, we got 40 seconds, pull the goalie.


Another thing I was wondering, and actually I heard it on Mike & Mike this morning (Gah, I hate those guys, but want sports radio) - the ref never has to explain what a foul is called for? In the US/Slovenia game, I really wanted to know WTF the call was. All I could get was the announcer's speculation, never did hear what it was supposed to be. Guess we never will.


If that's the case, then there's a couple things they need to do to improve the sport, IMHO.

Lol Juzam, that was a nice find. Even though I will admit that when I am not watching a game those horns can get real annoying. I love them during a game, but any other time they can go DIAF.
