Not surprising really. I've noticed quite a few people saying the same thing on other forums. It's amazing how much the mind will block out if someone isn't paying attention to it.
Not only that, it was never specifically stated. While there were quite a few pointed hints (which even I was too wrapped up in the story to notice and/or care about at the time) it is never stated so that everyone would catch on. My opinion, at least.

Not related to the show but I am re-reading the series in anticipation for ADWD. I had forgotten just how much I disliked AFFC. I was really enjoying the first three books again and then hit a wall with AFFC. BORING. I never really got in to the Greyjoys so that is probably a big part of it. Here is hoping ADWD is better.

Yeah. I felt like AFFC was a bit of a let down. Lots of new characters that I didnt typically like. Good thing ADWD is mostly about Jon, Daenerys, and Tyrion.
