South Beach to people watch
Lincoln road mall to eat or shop
Cuban district to shop or eat
Vizcaya to look at how rich old people lived and see an amazing house
Avoid:
Everywhere else.

Do not goto a little burb in Miami called Liberty City(not a joke) other than that I would... well avoid Miami.

I went to law school there. I completely concur. I love the Dolphins but the areas non on the coast are pretty much sh!t holes.
There is some nook-and-cranny charm to be found but you have to wade through a river of sh!t to get to it, pretty much.
ETA: And the club scene is unaffordable unless your name is Trump or Limbaugh

Pfft. There are plenty of awesome places in FL. The Gulf Coast is beautiful when there's not an oil spill to dodge. Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater is mostly awesome. Orlando is fun but tourist-trappy. The Keys are omgz awesome. In fact, my advice if you're driving to Miami is to keep driving til you arrive at Key Largo and party your way to Key West.

St Pete is awesome.
I also loves the Keys.
Miami, I didn't see a lot of when I visited, we were just there overnight in a campground.
