I see news interviews where peoples response to unemployment is , get a job!
This is really a wrongheaded thing to say.

The people are unemployed. I hypothesize: The underlying belief is, I am unemployed and I don't want to work. In general, I would say this belief does not correspond to reality.

Pretty sure nobody likes to be unemployed, so it's a strange thing to tell someone. Even at my level things are pretty rough now. I have a friend at Cornell who has an assistant professor opening and he had 99 applications after the first week. I don't think we even have 99 people working in our field, lol.

Recently a fire department not far away from me offered four trainee jobs for professional fire fighters. Within a week they had over 600 applications

I agree with you Mo. In America, over the past few years we have lost all kinds of manufacturing jobs. We have had a great many jobs outsourced to other countries. We have had open borders letting in thousands upon thousands of people to do low paying jobs at even lower pay. Graduating college students with degree and master degrees are having a hard time finding jobs let alone some stooge that has worked at a closed manufacturing plant.
Someone telling some one to "get a job" is the height of ignorance on what is going on in America. This isn't the pre-Neocon years anymore.
