He says the Heavenly Father has a plan for him. I almost asked him if His plan at least came with a case of Top Ramen, but I thought that it might be too soon.
On a broader note, I've long suspected that the pink slips would come out after Christmas. I hope my evidence remains anecdotal.

Most companies lay off near the beginning of the calendar year, if that coincides with the beginning of the fiscal year.
That way, their unemployment and settlement liabilities wind down before the end of the year and the books close... and they get the maximum benefit of the cost savings for the balance of the year in which it is reported.
Companies with fiscal years ending in June tend to lay off in July.
Mercenary, but true.

When everything else gets taken away from you, sometimes all you have left is your faith. Glad to hear he has a good support system. Divorce papers and losing your job in that short of a time span has got to suck.

Yeah, and you'd think the two events were somehow related, like he got caught Sanduskying some boys in the shower or something. We suspect his wife found someone new on EQ2. As for his job, he just happened to be one of 9 people laid off from a place he'd worked for over 10 years...long enough that the company was paying a premium for him, but not long enough to get a management job. Hell of a way to start a new year.
