The people that have been kidnapped in South America. What's the difference? Couldn't they use a seal team down there?

Which American citizens are currently kidnapped in South America?

Never heard of FARC. These people didn't get a Seal Team.

We have some pretty stupid rules concerning political assassinations. Sadly, I think a lot of these might fall in that governance.

But there are far more people being held by FARC. Why don't we help them?

I'm just wondering why the people in Somolia are more important than the people in Colombia?

Politics.

Nobody gives a flying buttfuk about Somalia so we can do just about whatever we want there. Countries like Iran and North Korea who had recently held American hostages could/would have turned into WWIII or just short of it if we sent in a SEAL team to rescue them.
South America is quickly turning into a pretty interesting region of the world with China and Russia looking to expand their influence there (and doing a great job of it at that) in opposition to the US. Quietly, yes, but it's happening and we're well aware of it.
10 or 15 years ago, sure... send in the SEALs. Today? Not so much.

You can't compare hostages held by FARC to those held by a small group of idiots living in huts in Somalia.

FARC has thousands of active and armed combatants who currently control a huge portion of Columbia. They are armed by Governments, and act as a De facto army in combat against the government of Columbia. They hold hostages in many locations and have shown their willingness to murder them if attempts are made at other locations to rescue hostages held there.

Without actually invading Columbia and taking over the entire country in a swift action that completely took every hostage holding group by surprise, any attempt to rescue them would result in the deaths of the vast majority of them.

Besides, the US government wants FARC around. Their continued existence is instrumental to the funding of the "War on drugs" and justification for spending 10's of billions of dollars a year in South and Central America, both supporting and training the military of governments allied with us, and on propping up the corrupt regimes themselves.

So some fictional person who may or may not be an American and may or may not be kidnapped in South America is supposed to be as important as an American Citizen that we know for a fact has been kidnapped?

This.

We created the situation for FARC to exist and promote it's continued existence with our policies in the region.
