Actually if you consider the monolithic structures across the globe (in particular "Easter Island" where they were removed from anyone) and also consider that there may have been alien intervention it is not outside the realm of possibility that the aliens might have utilized giant robots to do some of the work.

The Aliens didn't need robots. The shipping costs were too great. So they just genetically manipulated Neanderthals and used them as robots to do their mining. The spawn of those that escaped are your family tree!
