Its true.
If she had just given Feanor a lock of her damned hair, Feanor never would have created the Silmarils, Morgoth never would have stolen them, the Noldor never would have returned to middle earth in pursuit, and all the terrible wars that destroyed Beleriand would never have occurred.

Ummmm.... Feanor's motivation for crafting the famed jewels had nothing to do with Galadriel. Feanor was a pupil of Aule'. He was the most cunning, imaginative and learned of all elves... His Jewels were crafted as tribute to the glory of the One. Where does Galadriel enter into it?

In some of Tolkiens writings he mentioned that Feanor was inspired by Galadriels hair. Apparently it reflected the essence of the two trees. He wanted a lock of it, but she thought he was a jackass and said no. So he said "screw you, i'm going to find my own way to hold the light" so he created the silmarils.
See? Its all her fault.

No no no..
Galadriel shunned him over the whole step brother vs Feanor drama. But Feanor was never all "woe is me my half sister by marriage wont give me her hair." Feanor crafted thousands of Gems and Jewels. He surpassed ALL in the making of Gems, even the Valar. The Silmrills represented his greatest work. Inspired by all of Ardur, his life, his sorrow, his loves. In Tolkien's mind Feanor's story was predestined by the will of Eru. He is the most important creature born in middle earth and shouldn't be slandered by the whole "he did it for a girl" motif..
