Weird problem, or maybe not so. I have no experience with Windows 7 or 64 bit operating systems at all. I have been using Win XP since it came out with no problems. I felt like it was time to upgrade, plus I needed a new hard drive, so I upgraded yesterday.
Rather than copying everything from my old drive over to my new one, I decided to just leave the old drive hooked up and boot to the new drive/OS. The Windows install on the new drive went fine. However, since I installed Windows 7 (on the new drive) it does not want to read the old drive. First it says it is searching for "drivers" for the old hard drive, but it can't find them (never had that happen to me before with any windows install) now it won't read the drive at all. Also, when I boot the machine to the new OS, it seems to hang up when booting and takes a long time for Windows 7 to load (like nearly 5 minutes) and it still won't address the drive once it has booted completely. ETA: The machine boots in under 30 seconds with the old HDD completely detached, though. My mobo's BIOS reads both drives fine.
Could this be an issue with the fact that the new OS is 64 bit and the old isn't? That is the only reason I can think of for it not to be working. I really hate to think that I have to download 150+ gigs of data from Carbonite, is there a way to make this work?

make sure the disc is enabled or activated or whatever
clicky the little Windows icon bottom left (old start menu) and search for 'disk management'

haha my buddy asked me if the old drive was fat 32. It isn't, it's ntfs.
Even so I don't think that would keep the OS from even SEEING the drive, right? I mean, it may not be able to read the data but it should know there's a drive present at least (again, my BIOS sees it just fine).

No that can't be it, all modern windows OSs can read FAT32 and NTFS dialects.
Yeah good tip on checking disk management and see what you can do there.
Does the drive show up as it should during BIOS/EFI boot?
Btw Im assuming you chanegd boot order to the new clean drive before installing W7, and also disconnected the old while installing.
GLHF.
