He's the descendents of the Assassins you play and they use a machine to tap into his genetic memories. You have to discover memories in the game to advance and unlock more game play, mostly by completing a storyline.

It does look cool. I'm gonna have to play the first 2. I just picked up brotherhood and my wife beat it in a few days, I just got revelations yesterday and wife is gonna be starting it wed. She normally beats these kind of games in a couple days. I may actually try this one.
