You can not even imagine what the joint Korean/US barracks bathrooms looked like years ago!! That sign shows their actual usage. Ad the kimchi runs and...

In truth, that position illustrated in the OP is the most "healthy" and appropriate way, given the physiology of our bodies, to void your bowels. Western commodes just aren't built properly to accommodate that, and in truth, it does get hard on your knees and joints when you're older.
