Joe Biden calls bin Laden raid the most ‘audacious plan’ in 500 years

Vice President Joe Biden said Monday that the raid that killed Osama bin Laden was the most "audacious plan" of the past 500 years. Biden's comments, made at a Democratic fundraiser in Morris Township, NJ, ranked the May 2011 assault that ended the Al-Qaeda chief's life above the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944, the surprise landing at Inchon in 1950 that turned the tide of the Korean War or, going back a bit further, George Washington's daring night-time crossing of the Delaware River before the Battle of Trenton in 1776.
"  ou can go back 500 years. You cannot find a more audacious plan. Never knowing for certain. We never had more than a 48% probability that he was there," Biden said, hailing the raid as a shining example of President Barack Obama's leadership.
"Do any one of you have a doubt that if that raid failed that this guy would be a one-term president?" Biden asked, according to the media pool report from the event. "This guy is willing to do the right thing and risk losing."
The vice president also delivered a regular line that may be the pithiest "bumper sticker" reelection argument for Obama: "Osama Bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive. Think about it."

Just seems like the only thing they cover now is petty grandstanding bullshit, Biden thinks he's 500 years old, Obama didn't call Palin's kid, Bill Maher is a prick, whoopee fucking do.

I would say its basically this administrations "Mission Accomplished" equivalent, but Biden does this often. Obama is smart enough to leave the stupid remarks to Joe.

At least Biden had the humility to only go with 500 years. I probably would have gone back to Moses parting the Red Sea.
I think the more interesting thing is Biden saying they never had more than a 48% chance. Did Biden make that number up? Or did someone in the planning room really try to put a percentage on it? Quantifying an unknown probability into a concrete probability based on wild guesswork is really dangerous. Using a useless statistic in a decision making process can really blow up on you later. I hope Biden was just running his mouth and its not the case that somewhere in the depths of the Pentagon some guys are churning out useless Iranian invasion probabilities.
