posted: The US National Archive has released the data of individual Americans from the national census of 1940.

The details of 132 million people offer a comprehensive snapshot of the US as it emerged from the Great Depression and hovered on the cusp of war.

About 21 million of the people surveyed in the 1940 census are still alive, including celebrities such as Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman.

Records from past census counts have been released every decade since 1942.

The records, which are now publicly available online, reveal intimate details of people's lives including their income, employment and household information.

This should lead to some entertaining discussions on a lot of subjects. The first that occurs to me is the economic data and how it will be twisted to fit into the preconceived notions of the economics faithful.

The US did not get out of the Great Depression until 1947, when rationing, war power legislation in businesses and price fixing laws were removed

no those are facts, if you look at when the US government implemented the draft, it was 1940, lowering the chronic decade-long unemployment plaguing the US

The first war budget which converted peace-time industries into war factories was passed at FDR's request in 1940

Price fixing legislation enacted because the rise in the prices of goods as a result of the US government spending all that war money approved in 1941 along with rationing legislation for critical goods

those souls mot off getting killed in a war we should not have been jnvolved in were living in poverty as the US government consumed all goods and services through prohibition/rationing

As a gentle reminder for the mentally challenged... Japan, Italy and Germany declared war on us, not the other way around.

Actually FDR waged a covert war in China against Japan, granting the Axis powers Casus Beli against the US
