I hate to even post in this thread, but I do find it funny that high gas prices are cool now and no big deal. They were doom and gloom when Bush was el Presidente though.

If you read the article, you'd realize just how pitiful the argument is.
TLDR version: After you buy a more fuel efficient car, you save money buying gas at $4/gallon versus buying $3/gallon gas on your old clunker. With the payroll tax deduction, you really make out, too!

That article read like a debate position by the guy who drew "defend four dollar gas".
Some of us can't AFFORD a new, fuel efficient car.
I'm not spending 2007 dollars, I'm spending the very few I have from THIS f'n year.
Gas prices and ethanol are driving up food costs and that leaves even less of the "adjusted for inflation" dollars.

Hold on, let me trade in my paid for car so that I can spend money on a brand new one that is 10% more fuel efficient. Sounds like a good money saving plan to me.

Fuel efficient car?
What's that? Cars have been getting the same mileage for thirty years. Unless you're talking a hybrid which brings up a whole other host of issues.

Actually now you hear Republicans complaining about the speculators and not just the Dems.

Other than the author of that stupid article I don't think anyone really thinks this. Even the most liberal of Dems in the Obama administration know (for selfish reasons) that high gas prices hurt the economy, at least in the short term. And when it comes to politics, everything is about the short term.
