First time to NOLA for me. There will be some pre-arranged tours, but we'll also have free time to do whatever we want. I plan on getting drunk in a jazz bar.

Make sure you get some local cuisine! Great food. Gumbo and Jambalaya!
Also I would recommend the Court of the Three Sisters particularly if your are with your wife but even if it's just with friends. I've eaten in restaurants all over the world and this was one place that has always stuck with me, if only for the ambiance rather than the food. Their courtyard is a spectacular place to have dinner, breakfast or Sunday brunch.

I took Nnanci's recommendation on the Court of Two Sisters last year and it was great. We had brunch. The coffee there is the best I've ever had anywhere.
However, the one place you must eat is K-Paul's. Well, it you like food with a lot of spicy goodness. It's not a place for someone on a diet.
