They both seemed to "get it" eventually though, and would lay snuggled together while I smoked, all three of us watching the moon rise.

I mean, it's one thing if the animal is to be used for food (and is frankly not the sort of animal that's good for anything else), and is also granted a pleasant life and a humane death.
