Didnt click on OP's link, from what I understand there never was slash/crush/pierce bow (I forgot what default was pierce or slash?)...
The old school LGM bows (or any bow for that matter) went from slash/crush/pierce from the type of arrows you use, as the others have stated, they did away w/the need for those w/the new archery system...
My advice is to look on your archery list for the slash/crush/pierce "buff" you can put on yourself.
You honestly think that archers don't know about the lvl1 s/c/t arrow selection buff that replaced the old school 'footed broadhead' shop bought arrow selection method?
That's not what this thread is about.
Before they redid leggy weapons in December 2009, equipping a crafted leggy bow gave you a damage type buff icon, so equipping a spirit bow gave you a 'tempestous arrows' buff icon that showed that regular shots (not fire arrows or ice arrows) would do spirit damage, you could override this by selecting the s/c/t icon from the archery specline.
This gave archers the ability to select leggy bows that did damage that they 'guessed' would do the most damage based on the opponents armour type, and the possibilty of the opponent having red buff bot resists, in other words don't use a tempestous bow on an inf that camps his own bridge as he will in all likelyhood have 50% spirit resist from his buffbot. Instead use a pyroclasmic bow as the inf would be less likely to have red heat resists and he was heat vulnerable. If it was a friar, selecting the crush arrow icon would be a good option as friars have self heat resist buffs.
The redone leggy bows broke the self buff, and leggy bows went from defaulting the damage type based on the bow to slash damage (the default damage type now).
They also broke the sun bow in the process.
Overnight they destroyed the fletching tradeskill by removing the one weapon that archers bought and denied customers who play archers the same elemental damage option anyone else who specs a weaponline receives.
Best to click the OP's link to see the bug in action rather than just assume archers don't know how their own specline works.

Awsten's wisdom.
How does 10% magic damage and 10% spell pierce add up to 23% more damage in poisons?
Hey genius, how about this, Point blank is a 3 sec spell and so is the nightshade nuke.
