try deleteing all the stuff again, but this time, only re-install Decal and don't re-install Decal Companion or Tank.
Try with a default Decal install only.. see if it still crashes.

So far, mine is working fine. The registry still had entries from years ago in it for plugins that I no longer use, like ACMSN and Treestats, etc.
In conclusion, following the steps for performing a clean install of Decal on the website, it seems to have worked so far, although I've still not completed testing it yet. (It was running for hours at times before with no issue and would happen all of a sudden for no reason)

Also deleted the registry entries for the plugins after uninstalling them. Luckily I keep a slim list of things I use and could still remember what all I had from before.
