Quite a bit, yes. A good linkedin profile wIth relevant recommendations is a very strong tool for getting an it job. I'm not sure how much it is used in other fields.

I use it. Several recruiters around town post jobs on it and it's easier to keep up than the job sites.

Yea, I don't think it's very prominent in my field but I figure it couldn't hurt and may come in useful one day...
