Pretty much this. If I want to donate I will go out and donate to something I have interest in not someone that comes to me with their hand out. As for the swag? I usually dump it but if I am interested I keep it. I have a pack of those exact address labels that hit my mailbox soon after I moved into this house. As little mail as I send out I will probably have them for many years to come, lol.

I get mad at them for spending so much money sending out all of that stuff to people who didn't ask for it and will likely just throw it in the garbage.

I don't see the point in tossing them either way, it's not as if they can be used for something else. At least that way you are giving them free advertising on your mail in exchange for not having to write your address.
I only donate when I feel like it though, not generally because of a fundraising campaign.

I donate to DAV when they send stuff but not every time. Usually around every 4th or 5th time I will send them a check.

i donate only to the places i want to.
i keep the stuff if i need/want it, toss the letters.
no donation even if it is someplace i will usually donate to.
