I'd suggest the Xanth series, the Dragonriders of Pern series, RR Martin's Game of Thrones series...

I just started the third book, its been really good.
Ditto. Im at 30% in the 3rd. Good books.
Also read the Dresden files. Those some damn fine reading! Modern day world with fantasy interactions/ crossovers.
